The session began with opening remarks by Ewa Bielewicz (Acting Director, Collegium Polonicum), Agnieszka Stępińska (Vice-Dean for International Projects and Cooperation, Faculty of Political Science and Journalism, Adam Mickiewicz University), and Timm Beichelt (ValEUs Principal Investigator at the European University Viadrina).

ValEUs Abschlusskonferenz unter dem Titel „Values, Democracy, and EU Foreign Policy. Paths to a New Policy Agenda“. Wie können gemeinsame Werte die Außenpolitik der Europäischen Union in einer sich wandelnden Welt bestimmen? Was geschieht, wenn demokratische Grundsätze zunehmend infrage gestellt oder ausgehöhlt werden? Und welchen Beitrag können Wissenschaft, Bildung und Zivilgesellschaft in diesem Prozess leisten? Am Abend des zweiten Konferenztages begrüßten die amtierende Leiterin des Collegium Polonicum, Ewa Bielewicz, die Vizedekanin für internationale Projekte und Zusammenarbeit, Fakultät für Politikwissenschaft und Journalismus, der Adam-Mickiewicz-Universität in Poznan, Agnieszka Stępińska, sowie in Vertretung für den Präsident der Europa-Universität Viadrina, Prof. Dr. Timm Beichelt. Im Anschluss sprach Marek Prawda, polnischer Spitzendiplomat und langjähriger Dozent an der Viadrina, zum Thema „Challenges of a Value-Oriented EU Foreign Policy“.

Third Annual ValEUs Conference 2026

The Third Annual ValEUs Conference, hosted by European University Viadrina from 29 September to 2 October 2026, brought together scholars, policymakers, students, and representatives of civil society to reflect on the network’s work and develop societal strategies and policy recommendations to safeguard the EU’s foundational values amid increasingly complex and volatile political realities, both within and beyond the Union. Through keynote addresses, academic panels, and practice-oriented roundtables, participants explored ways to address these challenges effectively.
