V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University

V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University is one of the oldest public HEIs in Eastern Europe, with a 219-year history. Today, the University has one of the largest university campuses in Ukraine with 23 Schools and Educational and Research Institutes that train specialists in over 200 majors, covering the whole range of modern classic university education.
The university is actively involved in the implementation of a number of international research projects funded by the European Commission under the “Horizon 2020/Horizon Europe” and “Erasmus” programs.

Erasmus: Over the past three years, the university has been involved in a number of Erasmus projects that focused on Ukraine’s European integration, the European Union’s foreign policy and more.

Olena Muradyan

Dean of the School of Sociology, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Rector's Adciser on Gender Issues, PhD in Sociology, Associate Professor at the Political Sociology Department, Member of the Board of the Sociological Association of Ukraine. The topic of her PhD thesis is "Individualism and Communitarianism as Values of Lifestyle". Since 2012 she has experience in participating in and managing various research projects focusing on Ukraine and the European Union, with a particular emphasis on values, social inequalities, gender studies, ethno-cultural diversity, and food security (also HORIZON and ERASMUS projects). Research interests: influence of value orientations on lifestyle, individualization and communitarization, gender studies, international comparative studies, inequalities in modern societies, social change, impact of the war on higher education.

Olga Filippova

Olga Filippova is an Associate Professor of Sociology at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Ukraine and since March 2022 she works as a Project Researcher at the Karelian Institute, University of Eastern Finland. Her research has focused on identity politics, risk group of Ukrainian population, social cohesion and diversity in Ukraine’s border regions, reconceptualisations of borders in post-Soviet Ukraine. Her recent research focuses on forced war migration. Since 2001 she has participated in international and multidisciplinary research and education projects, such are ‘Bordering, Political Landscapes and Social Arenas: Potentials and Challenges of Evolving Border Concepts in a post-Cold War World’ (2012-2016)’; “Risk and crisis management education for a safer Ukraine” (2022-2023), “Dialogue and differences”; “Conflict Analysis and Resolution: Internship Program for Students”.

Dmytro Boiko

Head at the Political Sociology Department, School of Sociology, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, PhD in Sociology, Senior Lecturer. He is a sociologist with more than ten years’ experience of field work (since 2012 he conducts numerous of sociological, political, and marketing research projects on different topics, including problems of values, EU integration, environmental practices, entrepreneurship, etc.). Since 2017 he also deals with educating in university – gives sociological, marketing, interdisciplinary courses and lectures. Research interests focus on controversies over EU values and their impact on international relations.

Artem Lytovchenko

PhD in Sociology, Associate Professor at the Political Sociology Department, School of Sociology, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. He has been involved in research and teaching at the university for more than twenty years. He led many different student events, prepared and conducted student conferences and competitions, and was a tutor for student groups. For five years he represented the School of Sociology in the university trade union. In addition, since 2001 he worked as a teacher at the Kharkiv University Lyceum, led and reviewed special scientific projects for schoolchildren, and was responsible for working with schoolchildren at the School of Sociology. His researcher interest include: the problems of values in political processes, critical analysis of ideology and propaganda, and the role of universities in the formation of value consciousness.

Ruslan Zaporozhchenko

PhD in Political Science, Senior Lecturer and Junior Researcher at the Political Sociology Department, School of Sociology, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. He is actively engaged in the study of the post-Soviet and European space with a special emphasis on the foreign policy processes of regional and global actors, including the EU. In 2022-2023 he was a non-resident visiting scholar at the New School for Social Research (USA), the Institute for Human Sciences (Austria), and the Elliott School of International Affairs (USA). He has published articles in Europe-Asia Studies, Problems of Post-Communism, Journal of Southeast European and Black Sea Studies, Ideology and Politics Journal. Research interests: sociology of power, sociology of ideologies, comparative political science, hegemonic orders, sociology of space, globalization, european politics and society, EU foreign politics.

Daria Yashkina

PhD in Sociology and Junior Researcher at the Political Sociology Department, School of Sociology, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. Her research interests include political sociology, comparative research, values, social changes, and lifestyles. Bachelor's thesis topic "Value dynamics under the influence of points of no return: the European context". In her Ph.D. thesis, she studied the solo-living lifestyle; after the full-scale invasion phase of the war began, Daria studied the migration and displacement of Ukrainians without families, alone. In particular, she focuses on the migration policies of various European countries. She has experience as a field researcher in assessment projects for Ukrainian IDPs and refugees.

Oksana Nekhaienko

PhD in Sociology, Senior Lecturer at the Political Sociology Department, School of Sociology, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. Author of more than twenty scientific publications, including teaching aids. University teacher with seven years of experience. Lecturer of interdisciplinary courses that are based on sociological analysis of modern society. In 2023, she attended a series of lectures within the framework of the project “Volyn Center for European Studies: Green and Secure Neighborhood” Research interests focus on controversies over EU values and their impact on international relations.

Viacheslav Nikulin

PhD in Sociology, Associate Professor at the Political Sociology Department, School of Sociology, Deputy Dean of the School of Sociology for Academic Affairs. He is a researcher on research projects that focus on the study and research of values, domestic and foreign policy, political elites, and social inequalities. He teaches his own courses "Social Inequalities", "Sociological Comparative Studies", and "Political Practices" for students of the School of Sociology. Research interests: studying political elites, informal practices in politics, network analysis in sociology, youth values and political values.

Alexander Golikov

Full Doctor in Sociology (Doctor of Sociological Scinces), Professor at the Sociology Department, School of Sociology, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. He has published more than 150 articles in multiple languages in scientific journals. Author and co-author of 5 monographs. Participant of numerous scientific and research projects on regional, Ukrainian and international level. Supervisor of a few dissertation thesises, made already on School of Sociology and current. Member and invited expert in a few editorial boards of scientific bulletins and work collections. Research interests: sociology of knowledge, social inequalities, sociology of education, cultural capital, globalization, theory of sociology, history of sociology, EU values and their impact on international relations.
